Sep 25, 2018 Listen, Do You Smell Something?
By Erika Church
Any researcher, paranormal or otherwise, knows there is no shortage of adventures you can have in a library. Here at the Marriott Library, we have a dedicated fine arts, performing arts, and architecture collection. The K.W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library and the Fine Arts Collection are located on the 2nd floor of the Library.
Today’s Fine Arts Feature is Visionaire Col. 42: Scent.
Visionaire is a unique publication born out of the creativity and collaborative spirit of the fashion industry. There are currently 67 volumes and you can explore 33 of those volumes including Vol. 42 here at the Library.
“In 42 SCENT, Visionaire deconstructs the elements of scent, pairing twenty-one experimental perfumes — produced in collaboration with International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) — alongside twenty-one equally innovative images. Mario Sorrenti’s chilling photo of icebergs paired with the scent of cold by perfumer Vera Degen. David Bowie’s smell of success smelled vaguely rotten, symbolized in a Dan Forbes photo of sand slipping through Iman’s sinuous fingers. Karl Lagerfeld sought to capture hunger, to him the scent of bread baking at Paris’s legendary Poilâne Bakery, courtesy of perfumer Sandrine Malin. Lagerfeld photographed model Brad Kroenig in the nude with a baguette.”
