Seven Study Spots in the Library That You Might Not Have Known About

By Jordan Hanzon

When the booths on level one are taken and there’s not a free table in sight on level three, what other study places are there? Give these spots a try!

1. Family Reading Room

The Family Reading Room is intended for use by U of U student parents/guardians accompanied by children under the age of 12. The space offers desktop computers, a lactation room, a printer, an Apple TV, toys, books, and more!

2. Graduate Reading Room

The Graduate Reading Room is a quiet study space available to any registered graduate student at the University of Utah. All you need to do is register for access first.

3. Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library

For a completely different feel, try the Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library on level 2. Whether you are looking to spend some time with a PS4 or just wanting to admire some art, this space has them both!

4. Katherine’s Courtyard

Katherine’s Courtyard is a new addition to the library and it’s full of great outdoor spaces, but did you know it also has an indoor space as well? There’s an entrance to the indoor location from the level 2 hallway as well as from the outside on level 1. Inside there are several small and large study desks as well as ceiling fans to keep it nice and cool.

5. Exercise Desks

Who knew that exercise and studying could go so well together? There are several choices of exercise desks on level 3 including desk treadmills, exercise bikes, and even a group bike location.

6. The Annie Clark Tanner Western Americana Collection and Reading Alcove

If you are looking for a small, secret, and quiet study location, look no further than this wonderful space found on level 4. The alcove is furnished with desks, chairs, and the essentials for a good study session, but separate and far away enough from other people so you won’t get distracted.

7. Under the Pyramids

Ever wonder what those glass pyramids are on the plaza? Those are actually right above a great study spot for a quieter location in the sun. Just head to the corner edge on levels 1 and 2 to find this area.
