Thoughts on Thanksgiving and Our Ski Affair Volunteers

As I turned my calendar page from October to November, I thought of what the month of November usually brings—the excitement of Ski Affair and the joy of once again meeting with  friends who help support Special Collections’ Ski Archives. Our many wonderful volunteers who comprise the Ski Archives Board work diligently for months preceding Ski Affair to ensure every detail is just right for the annual fundraiser with its 500 attendees. Thanks to our supporters, the Ski Archives today holds one of the largest collections of its type known worldwide.

Given that we are unable to host the event in-person this fall, the Ski Archives Board has crafted a special edition newsletter celebrating the Ski Affair’s 30th anniversary. Please join with us in celebrating this significant milestone for Ski Archives. We’ve put together a photo gallery from years past, and a few “bragging” points for the archive include:

  • 500,000 images (21,000 digitized and available online)
  • 250 manuscript collections
  • 250 oral history interviews
  • 6,000 audio, video, and film collections
  • 300,000 photographs donated by the publication, “Ski Racing”

As we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, I thank everyone who has supported the Marriott Library. Your support helps us be “All You Need” for students, staff, faculty, researchers, and community members.

Warmest regards,

Spence Eccles, longtime supporter of the Ski Affair and Special Collections, visits with Alberta Comer, Dean of Libraries, and Gregory Thompson, Associate Dean for Special Collections at the 2018 Ski Affair.
