A Thank You to Our Student Employees

At the Marriott Library, we employ more than 100 students who provide services and resources to library users. They work in nearly every department, processing rare and archival material in Special Collections, connecting users with information and library material at the service desks, making security rounds, processing deliveries in the library mailroom, assisting with 3D printers and VR equipment, and answering Chat questions. And the list goes on. Simply put, without our student employees, the library could not keep its doors open.

This past year – the year none of us will soon forget – our student employees were at the ready. They handled urgent requests for laptops, calculators, and Wi-Fi devices, pulled books and mailed them to users near and far, helped other students complete their assignments in the Book Arts Studio, and fulfilled interlibrary loan requests. We could not have provided these services without them.

These students showed remarkable professionalism and flexibility when we asked them to work under new and ever-changing conditions, and they rose to the challenge of providing exceptional service under extraordinary circumstances.

We are grateful to our student employees. We have highlighted four of our graduates on our blog. These four individuals all have one thing in common – they have made a difference in the library and I am sure they will make a difference in the world with whatever path they choose.

Sincerely,

Alberta Comer

Dean of Libraries
