Bella Wurtz

Collection Development Assistant

Bella is returning to the Marriott Library as Collection Development Assistant. She was raised in the Salt Lake Valley and previously worked at the Marriott Library in Library Operations and Protection Services. Recently, Bella graduated from the University of Utah with a B.S. in Psychology and minor in Mathematics. In 2023, she lived in Belgium for six months working as a student researcher in the Meaning in Late Life Lab at KU Leuven. Bella is passionate about helping the community and is excited to be able to continue to support the Marriott Library in its growth and ability to serve as a primary resource for current and future patrons.

In her free time, Bella enjoys reading, knitting, cooking, traveling, mountain biking, skiing, hiking, and camping! Also, she loves learning about new subjects, but has a sweet spot for topics concerning statistics and psychology.

Tyler Vowles

Collection Development & Acquisitions Assistant

I was born and raised in Utah, and except for a short but lovely stint in Berkeley, CA, have lived here all my life. My professional background involves 7 years of experience in public libraries (Davis County and Salt Lake City) which included fun things like running a chess night every week. I also have more than 10 years’ experience in high-end fashion(sales, styling, tailoring, etc) with a focus on Japanese design. My favorite movie directors are David Fincher, Paul Thomas Anderson, Edgar Wright, Steven Soderbergh, and George Miller. My favorite authors are William Gibson, Cormac McCarthy, David Sedaris, Neal Stephenson, and Haruki Murakami. My free time is spent playing chess, climbing, making conversation, and building things with friends.

Ashley Shaw

Cataloging Specialist

Ashley has spent the last two years as a part-time Cataloging Assistant in Special Collections, and she is thrilled to begin her new role as a full-time Cataloging Specialist. She first worked at the Marriott Library in the Digital Preservation department as a student employee in 2019, where she fell in love with special collections. She has an MLS from Emporia State University with an Archives concentration and previously earned her BA in English here at the U. She is passionate about diversity, equity, inclusion, and access in the metadata and the library catalog. She is a collector of books, music, cats, and people.

Michael Suh

Marina Lemus

Shipping & Receiving Supervisor

Born and raised in Guatemala City, earned a Chemical Engineer Degree. Worked in Quality Control, Finance, Package designer, Job coach for people with disabilities and Demand Planning and supply Chain. Army wife moved to Utah about two months. Fond of everything outdoors, and loving the hiking life!

I love books, I have a library between my books left in Guatemala at my parents house, some that I left at my in laws and the ones I always move with every time the army relocates us. I am always reading something, fiction, history, biographies, science, my favorite topic is: historical novels. Super excited to be part of the library and have contact with books on a daily basis.

Alison Fox

Alison was born in Utah but also spent time living in Alabama, North Carolina, Massachusetts, California, and Oregon. She has her MSLS from UNC-Chapel Hill and has mostly worked in public libraries. She’s enjoying being in Utah and working in academic libraries, and is hoping to stay put in both for a good long while!

Milo Projansky Ono

Collection Services Supervisor

Milo Projansky Ono graduated from Oberlin College in 2022, where they studied creative writing, dance, and book studies. They have previously worked at KUER and Davis County Libraries, and they are excited to take part in maintaining the Marriott’s incredible collections! Milo’s favorite book genres include sci-fi, speculative fiction, memoir, and graphic novels.

Madison Golden

Research Data Librarian (Madison.Golden@utah.edu)

Madison Golden is joining the library as a Research Data Management Librarian. She has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in Art and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with her Masters of Library and Information Science this Spring. Madison is new to both the University and Librarianship, having previously worked in data governance for a large corporation. She is looking forward to translating her expertise gained in that role to the academic library and research data environment.
Outside of work, Madison continues to create art, primarily using gouache and ink. She also  enjoys all things outdoors and looks forward to taking advantage of all Utah has to offer in skiing, hiking, biking, and running.

Kaylee Alexander

Research Data Librarian (kaylee.alexander@utah.edu)

Kaylee trained as an art historian and is a specialist in data-driven humanities research. Having completed her PhD at Duke University, she came to the University of Utah in 2022 as an ACLS postdoctoral fellow for Digital Matters. Her research focuses on material culture, art markets, and visual cultures of death and commemoration—stay tuned for her forthcoming book, A Data-Driven Analysis of Cemeteries and Social Reform in Paris, 1804–1924, with Routledge later this summer! She is excited to begin her new role as a Research Data Librarian in the Marriott Library and have the opportunity to work across disciplinary boundaries to promote effective data visualization, management, and accessibility strategies.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, Kaylee has seen nearly every Alfred Hitchcock film and is happy to bore you with useless trivia. She also enjoys collecting nineteenth-century prints and ephemera related to cemeteries and the funerary industry.

Sara Luz Jensen

Book Arts Faculty Member (Sara.Luz.Jensen@utah.edu)

Sara Luz Jensen is a book artist and recent graduate of the MFA program at the University of Iowa Center for the Book. Under the small-press imprint Fingertips Press, she designs and produces artist book publications and printed matter, many of which are collaborations with writers and visual artists. She joins the Marriott from the Salt Lake Public Library and is passionate about promoting access to creative technology and community engagement.

Dorothy Terry

Dorothy returns to librarianship as a Liaison Librarian at the University of Utah. Her break in librarianship saw her spending four years living and working in Korea as a Native English Teacher and one year exploring her inner Elf in New Zealand. Prior to living abroad, she has worked at two universities in Baltimore, where she learned the value of interdisciplinary studies. She has her MA in Library and Information Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her BA in Anthropology and Classics from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is super excited to be in a new place and learn more about Utah!

Marina Narvaez

Marina joins the University of Utah libraries as an assistant librarian with 12 years of librarian experience, of which nine as a business librarian. She has an undergraduate degree in business, graduate degrees in library science and English, and 21 hours towards a DBA. She loves being and looks forward to serving the College of Business at the U, but warns that if Wonder Woman’s position opens up, she will apply for it.

Jasmine Kirby

Jasmine joins the University of Utah libraries as an assistant librarian. Originally from Chicago, she first headed to the cornfields where she received an undergraduate degree in history and a graduate degree in library science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After that, she worked in Ames, IA and then, after finally tiring of corn, in Doha, Qatar. She is excited to live near mountains and looks forward to tasting all of the local restaurants, floundering about in a variety of winter sports, and hiking in national parks.

Annika Deutsch

Annika Deutsch brings an interdisciplinary background to her role as liaison librarian, with a recently completed MSLIS at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, MA in English literature, and BS in geology. She worked for 12 years in environmental consulting and taught composition and research methods to first-year undergraduate students while pursuing her MA. She is passionate about making information more accessible and setting students up for success in their future careers.

Alex McCausland

User Experience Developer

Alex McCausland is a recent Graduate of the University of Utah, with a bachelors in Strategic Communication. With a long history with Graphic Design, Alex seeks to further develop his skills by diving into User Interface and Experience Design.

Taylor Kwasneski

Audiovisual Specialist

Taylor Kwasneski is a recent graduate from Florida State College at Jacksonville, with his Bachelor’s in Digital Media. Originally from Jacksonville, he has lived in Florida his whole life and wanted a change of scenery. Wanting to expand upon what he learned in previous jobs and internships in the field of audio and video, he is happy to bring what he knows to a new team at the UofU!

Thomas McNulty

ARC & Facilities Coordinator

Thomas McNulty is joining the Marriott Library as ARC & Facilities Coordinator.  He obtained his B.S. in Anthropology alongside a minor in Photography from the University of Utah (class of ’22).  Prior to this position, McNulty worked as a Barista at Beans & Brews Coffeehouse.  He was born and raised in the Salt Lake Valley and has lived in Utah for almost his entire life.  He has a deep interest in library and museum collections work, and is excited to learn more about this field in his new position!

In his free time, he enjoys being outdoors, mountain biking, camping, sand volleyball, anything!  He is also fond of photography (film & digital), watching movies and tv shows, academic research, and cooking on his Traeger®!
