New Self-checkout Option Available

There’s a new way to checkout library materials available now to all with a current UCard. There are two self-checkout stations that are now located at each of the entrances (Levels 1 & 3) near the security desks.

Want to try it out yourself? Here’s how to use it!

A computer screen shows a login page for the University of Utah Health. Nearby, a barcode scanner sits on a desk next to a sign for self-checkout.

1. Login using your University of Utah credentials.

Self-checkout is not available to library permit holders. Please checkout at the entrance desk.

A barcode scanner reads a barcode on a book page, highlighted by a pink laser line. Nearby, a monitor base and white cables rest on a beige surface.

2. Scan University of Utah Libraries barcode using the scanner or type in barcode numbers.

Most barcodes are inside on the back cover or the last page.

Interlibrary Loan items have a TN barcode on the front cover of the sleeve.

If an item has multiple pieces, make sure to scan all barcodes.

A library book titled "Rewilding Our Hearts" with a nature cover lies on a checkout counter. Security gates in the background. A small yellow sign is visible.

3. Desensitize materials by sliding the spine of the item(s) on top of the stainless steel brick, swiping back and forth.

Do NOT desensitize VHS, cassettes, floppy disks, watches, cell phones, computer, or any other technology.

Examine the condition of the item(s) and let the desk attendant know if you find any damage.

A computer screen displays a successful logout message at a self-checkout station. A scanner and instructions are visible, with a bright window in the background.

4. Log out.

If you get an error message, please see desk attendant.
