New Things Happening for GIS & Data Visualization Projects

Since the beginning of the pandemic, we have implemented many changes in how project assistance is provided. When in-person assistance was no longer an option, virtual assistance was provided through Zoom, enabling us to interactively meet and provide the support required to keep projects progressing forward. This successful, virtual meeting option will continue to be offered as in-person assistance returns to the Marriott Library and with it, I’m excited to introduce new resources available soon to students, staff, and faculty developing GIS and data visualization projects.

The first resource is our new GIS & Data Visualization Lab. This lab consists of 8 high-performance computers designed with computational analysis in mind, containing a wide and growing variety of GIS and data visualization software programs to assist in project and research development. Located in Suite 2751 of the Marriott Library, this lab will be available Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00am and 6:00pm. Drop-in GIS sessions, workshops, and other events will also be held within this space, so stay tuned to learn more.

The second resource will be construction of a powerful data visualization wall currently in the final planning stages. Measuring approximately 25 feet wide by 7 feet high, this large-scale visualization tool will provide users with the ability to present, analyze, and manipulate multiple types of data simultaneously within various settings including workshops, meetings, and small working groups. Construction of the data visualization wall is anticipated to commence in November 2021 and made available to students, staff, and faculty in Spring 2022.

Although the pandemic still lingers over us, we anticipate great things happening within the realm of GIS and data visualization at the Library. We look forward to sharing these resources and our expertise to assist in the needs of projects and research you are pursuing.
