Feb 05, 2024 Black History Month & Our Special Collections
Dean’s Message, February 2024
As we come into the month of February – Black History Month – we are reminded about the leadership, accomplishments and contributions of countless African Americans across our nation. Right here in the Marriott Library’s Special Collections, we can learn about the many individuals who have shaped our community over the decades. Playwright Theodore Ward is one such example; he studied at the University of Utah, and worked with professor Louis Zucker on plays that eventually came to the stage in Chicago and New York.
The other thing on my mind is our recent work in building collections specific to our student and faculty needs. For example, we recently acquired these eight databases and journals. We will continue to work directly with deans and faculty to shape collections to meet the needs of a university striving to be a top 10 public research university.
I hope that each of us will enjoy February – also the month of love – and know that our libraries are safe havens and open to everyone. Come visit our Special Collections or walk through the library to enjoy the exhibitions. We are here for you and we are “All U Need.”
Kindly,
Sarah L. Shreeves
