Mar 22, 2024 Scholarly Exploration: Floyd O’Neil Marriott Library Research Fellowship
Within the University of Utah’s academic domain lies the esteemed Special Collections Department of the J. Willard Marriott Library, housing original and rare resources with an emphasis on Utah and the American West. The annual Floyd O’Neil Marriott Library Research Fellowship, a $3,500 grant honoring the late Dr. Floyd A. O’Neil, fosters scholarly pursuits within Special Collections. Named after the former director of the American West Center and dear friend to the library, this fellowship facilitates scholarly exploration by granting access to the unique collections found in the Marriott Library Special Collections. It provides access to diverse materials, including manuscripts, multimedia, Western Americana, Rare Books, and Book Arts, enabling scholars to delve deeply into their inquiries.
The Floyd O’Neil Marriott Library Research Fellowship welcomes applications from scholars of all backgrounds. Applications require a project proposal, budget, timeline, resume or CV, and references. Selection criteria prioritize research significance, potential scholarly contribution and utilization of Special Collections materials. Recipients delve into their research, culminating in a comprehensive report shared with the library’s archives upon completion.
