Celebrate Pride Month with Stonewall Award Winning Books

Formerly known as the Gay Book Award, the Stonewall Award has been given to books since 1971 that have “exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender experience” according to the American Library Association (ALA). The award is sponsored by the Rainbow Round Table, an organization within ALA that supports LGBTQIA+ initiatives & issues for both libraries and the public at large.

The awards are given annually during a ceremony every June. The awards are broken down into three categories:

  • Barbara Gittings Literature Award
  • Israel Fishman Non-Fiction Award
  • Mike Morgan and Larry Romans Children’s and Young Adult Literature Award

Additionally there are other finalists in each category that are honored as well. All of the 2023 winners and honors are available to any current University of Utah student, staff or faculty.
