Feb 07, 2018 New Large-Format Scanner in Fine Arts & Architecture
The Katherine W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library recently partnered with the Digital Matters Lab and Student Computing Services at the Marriott Library to purchase a new, large-format scanner for our users. Our old flatbed scanner received a lot of use over the years, but its age was beginning to show in both its scan quality and user interface.
The new overhead KIC Scanner has a scanning bed greater than A1 size (~24×33 inches), which is the largest scanning surface currently offered in the library. The scanner also has:
- A motorized bed that can be adjusted to accommodate fragile book spines or oversized volumes.
- A glass plate that can be lowered to gently flatten your scanning materials and keep books open without fingers or hands showing up in the images.
- A rapid feeder-scanner than can, when paired with the built-in OCR software, produce machine-readable PDFs from your paper documents.
This specific system was purchased in order to support all patrons with large documents, pieces of art, monographs, rare books, etc. The scanner is easy to use and when finished, scans can be saved to a Jump Drive, e-mailed as an attachment, or dropped into an online service like Box or Google Drive.
So, please come to the Fine Arts & Architecture Library to try out our new piece of equipment!
