Apr 24, 2018 Exploring the 20 Highest Mountain Peaks in Utah
With its diverse geological features, Utah is home to some of the most beautiful mountains and picturesque landscapes found in the world. In this week’s Map of the Week, we embark on a 3-dimensional journey, visualizing the top 20 highest mountain peaks found in Utah. Where will your summer adventures take you? #MapMonday
Exploring the 20 Highest Mountain Peaks in Utah
Google Earth played a key role in the development of this project, presenting virtual images of each mountain peak within a 3-dimensional environment. Google Earth itself is an amazing geospatial tool, not only for identifying locations around the world, but also for sharing various types of information through engaging presentations. Utilizing the tools of this program, a series of tour points were established, visualizing each of the identified mountain peaks in order of their elevation above sea level. Video recording software (such as Camtasia) was then utilized to capture the animated tour within Google Earth, where it was edited, annotated, and exported into its final format.
This project is an excellent example of how simple visualizations can be collected and shared with others, offering new ways of visualizing information beyond the written narrative.
