A Welcome to New Library Hires in 2024

Rachel Urban

Outreach Education Specialist & Studio Support

Rachel Urban joins the Marriott Library as the Outreach Education Specialist & Studio Support for the Book Arts Program. She obtained a BFA in Printmaking from the University of Utah and was the distinguished recipient of the 2018 Rolapp Award for Excellence, presented by the Department of Art & Art History to the most highly qualified and talented graduating Bachelor or Master of Fine Arts student. A versatile printmaker and artist, Rachel maintains an active studio practice and her work is held and exhibited in collections nationally. She is passionate about K-12 education and worked as a teaching assistant at Hawthorne Elementary for nearly 6 years. As the new Outreach Education Specialist for the Book Arts Program, she is thrilled to bring the Book Arts Treasure Chest into Utah high schools this fall, delivering with it History of the Book presentations and related bookmaking activities for students.

While Rachel loves nothing more than her cat Meow Meow, she also enjoys spending time in nature, writing poetry, and connecting with friends and family in her free time.

Mark Howell

Lab Specialist

Mark is returning to the Marriott library after 6 years of research and teaching in Biology and 2 years of running 3D printing and VR services for the Eccles Health Science Library. His biology work involved studying respiration and gas exchange in alligator lungs and modeling COVID particle deposition in the sinuses of bats. He previously worked as a student employee in the Protospace in 2017. Mark is excited to bring new programming to the Protospace with a focus on cross-disciplinary learning and novel uses of technology. Outside of work Mark enjoys cycling, trail running, and baking.

Ashley Humphries

ARC & Facilities Coordinator

Ashley earned her BA in Art History & Curatorial Studies with a minor in Media Arts from BYU in 2019. They have previously interned at the Springville Art Museum and the Harold B. Lee Library Book Repair department. She has spent the past five years at the Church History Library on the Collection Care team as an Archives Specialist. They enjoy reading, thrifting, embroidery, and spending time with their partner Preston and their cat Arlo.

Chloe Sparrow

Marketing & PR Assistant

Chloe joins the Marriott Library as the Marketing and PR Assistant. She earned her BS in Professional Sales and AAS in Sales and Merchandising from Weber State University. Previously, she worked as the Social Media and Marketing Specialist for the Weber County Ice Sheet. Chloe is excited to bring her skills and knowledge to the library and to get to know everyone within the University. Outside of work, you can find Chloe enjoying a good book, watching movies, attending live theater/performances, spending time with her family, and cuddling her three dogs: Pete, Archie, and Norman.
