A Welcome to New Library Hires in 2025

There are several new faces at the Marriott Library! These friendly and knowledgeable individuals are here to assist students, staff and faculty with all things required for all encompassing academic success. Feel free to reach out to them at any time; they are here for U!

Jacob Martinez

Audiovisual Specialist

Jacob Martinez has been involved with the U since 2017, starting with A/V in the Rice Eccles Stadium and Huntsman Center and mixing live audio for sports such as football, basketball, gymnastics and volleyball. In 2023, he took a full-time position at Kingsbury Hall as the Head of Audio, managing all the audio and video needs for every show to go through Kingsbury as well as mixing the live shows. During his time there, he installed a brand new sound system, the first sound system upgrade in over 20 years.

Outside of work Jacob spends most of his time making music, playing in bands and playing video games.

Amanda Hurtado

Special Collections Program Manager

Amanda Hurtado holds a PhD in Media Poetics from the University of Colorado, Boulder; an MFA in Creative Writing & Poetics from the University of Washington, Bothell; and a BA in English Literature from the University of Utah.

At 17 years old, Amanda’s first job was Library Supervisor at a small one-room specialty branch of the Utah Valley University library. From there, she worked on a special project in the Marriott Library’s Fine Arts locked case before taking a full-time Evening Supervisor position at the S.J. Quinney Law Library while she worked her way through school.

In addition to her six years of experience in academic libraries, Amanda brings another 23 years of experience in a variety of jobs that cross the spectrum from web content management, publishing books, and teaching English Literature to owning her own art gallery and coaching her own roller derby league.

Outside of work, Amanda enjoys knitting, teaching yoga, making books, and spending time with her family.

Camri Kohler

Digital Initatives Librarian

The Marriott Library is thrilled to welcome Camri Kohler as the new Digital Initiatives Librarian. Camri earned her BA at the University of Utah and her MLIS at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Having worked at the U for nearly a decade before joining the library faculty, she previously held the positions of Archivist at PBS Utah, and U-matic Research Project Archivist at the J. Willard Marriott Library.

Camri enjoys writing horror novels, gardening, playing sports with her pals, and lounging with her two very spoiled dogs Goose and Frank.

Heidi Fendrick

Assessment Data Analyst

Heidi Fendrick joins the Marriott Library as the inaugural Assessment Data Analyst. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Anthropology from Weber State University and a Master of Science in Library Science (MSLS) from Clarion University, specializing in local and historical archives. Additionally, she holds a certificate in Research Data Management from Simmons University.
Heidi brings over a decade of library experience, most recently serving as the State Data Coordinator for the Utah State Library Division. In this role, she led data management, analysis, and strategic decision-making initiatives for public libraries across the state. Her work earned national recognition as the recipient of the prestigious Francis Keppel Award from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) for excellence in data collection and use in 2021, 2022, and 2023. Her professional service includes co-chairing the Public Library Association’s Measurement, Evaluation, and Assessment Committee and serving as chair and vice chair of the Utah Library Association’s Assessment Roundtable.

A lifelong learner and outdoor enthusiast, Heidi enjoys exploring nature, traveling across the U.S., and spending time with her husband, two daughters, and three dogs. She is also fascinated by marine life, with a special passion for whales.
