Administrative Program Coordinator
Gabrielle Barker joins the library team as an Administrative Program Coordinator. In this position she will be managing calendars, supporting the Associate Deans of the library, and assisting with other various projects for the library’s administration.
Born and raised in Utah, Gabrielle attended Westminster College where she received her undergraduate degree in Visual Communication. She has experience in managing complex schedules, graphic design, web design, and administrative-level work at a collegiate institution.
Gabrielle is an artist with a passion for visual design and the arts. She spends her free time drawing, painting, creating collages, taking film photos, and experimenting with other artistic mediums. She loves animals and enjoys being with her dog, as well as the neighborhood cats when they come around.
Gabrielle has enjoyed the fast-paced and ever-changing environment that comes with working in higher education, and is excited to contribute to the success of the University of Utah.
Archivist, Multimedia Archives, Special Collections
Danielle Vasques Rausch joins the library team as a new Archivist for the Multimedia Archives in the Special Collections department. Originally from Santos, Brazil, Danielle moved to Denver to pursue a graduate degree in Library and Information Science, where she discovered her passion for archives and special collections. Danielle moved to Salt Lake City after graduation, and worked as a Records and Information Specialist for the Salt Lake City Corporation Engineering department prior to accepting her position at the Marriott Library.
In her free time, she enjoys watching movies with her husband and two dogs as well as camping and hiking, and playing video games. Danielle is very excited to be part of the Marriott Library’s Special Collections!
Business Manager, University of Utah Press
Steve Mecham joins the library team as the Business Manager for the University of Utah Press. He is a U of U alum who put his MBA to use in accounting and finance roles in multi-national companies, including Rio Tinto and Schlumberger. His wife, Shelli, is a fellow U of U alum and works as a clinical director for a local nonprofit. In his spare time, Steve loves to visit his kids (he has a daughter who lives in Asheville, NC, a son in London, England, and another daughter in Salt Lake), travel the world with his family, hike in the Wasatch Mountains, work in his garden, and read. He’s especially excited to start reading his way through the University Press’s titles!
Administration Program Assistant
As the Administration Program Assistant, Mallory Seidlitz supports the members of the Administrative Suite in areas of marketing, development, and HR. Originally from the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe, she moved to Salt Lake City to complete an internship with a local nonprofit. She received a B.B.A. from the University of Central Oklahoma and is now continuing her education with an M.B.A. in Nonprofit Management remotely through Oklahoma State University.
Mallory has always been passionate about higher education, continuous learning and nonprofit service. Coming to the University of Utah offers a familiar academic environment with exciting new opportunities in all the fields she loves. Beyond academia, Mallory has a diverse background in event management, legal psychology and 22 years of dance training. She also serves as a volunteer grant writer in the development division of a new Utah organization. She loves the outdoors, the Olympics, military operations and eating delicious cheese.
Gina Giang joins the Marriott Library as an Archivist in Special Collections – Multimedia/Manuscripts Archives. She recently worked at Utah’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (UOSH) in the Bureau of Labor Statistics division. Prior to her time at UOSH, Gina was an Archival Processing Assistant at the Huntington Library for 9+ years. She earned a Master of Library and Information Science degree from San José State University.
She enjoys shopping at Costco with her husband and playing Frisbee with her dog Smokey. Gina is super excited to be part of the Special Collections team!
Matthew Bettencourt recently joined the Marriott Library as the ILL/Document Delivery Coordinator. He began working in the ILL department in 2019 as a student employee while studying Film & Media Arts at the U. Matthew felt at home in the library and enjoyed working with all the wonderful people here. He is currently pursuing a MLIS degree online through the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. What Matthew loves most about working in Interlibrary Loan is the opportunity to provide students and educators with resources for their academic projects.
Matthew was born in Boise, Idaho and grew up in a small town outside of Twin Falls. His family is from the Azores Islands, and he was fortunate to have learned Portuguese growing up. His cultural heritage is an important part of his life, and he has gone back to the Islands several times to visit extended family.
In his free time, Matthew enjoys searching for and collecting physical media and books on film. He has a large collection of movies on various formats: VHS, LaserDisc, DVD & Blu-ray. He’s also a huge fan of the NBA and is looking forward to watching some games at Vivint Arena.
Kristina Barksdale is a recent graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Film and Media Arts. She’s originally from Idaho and Virginia, but moved to Utah in 2017 for school and currently resides here in Salt Lake. She has worked at the Marriott library since 2018 as a Manuscripts Processor in Special Collections, and now works as an Archivist in the same department. In her free time she loves watching movies, writing, and spending time with friends. Kristina is excited for the opportunity to continue her work here at the U!
Catering & Food Service Coordinator
My name is Carolina Frez. I was born in Santiago, Chile. I moved to Coral Gables, Florida in 1995 then to Utah in 1998. I really like Utah, it is a very nice state with a lot outdoor activities that I enjoying doing like hiking and sailing. I own a 26’ long sailboat that I keep at Utah Lake.
I began working for Chartwell’s at the University of Utah more than twenty years ago as a full-time Baker Supervisor since then I have worked in different departments and stores around campus, including; Einstein Bagels, Mom’s Café, and most recently at the Union Building.
I have experience in all aspects catering – managing food and beverage services for more than twenty years. I love working with people and food.
Doris Duke Project Archivist
Fallon Carey joins the Marriott Library remotely from Minneapolis, but is originally from the Cherokee Nation Reservation in Oklahoma. She is a recent 2020 graduate of the MLIS program at University of Wisconsin-Madison and earned her BFA in Ceramics and Art History from the University of Tulsa. Pre-pandemic she interned for the Department of Natural Resources Creative Services Unit and the Walker Art Center Archives in Minneapolis. Fallon is the Special Collections Archivist for the Doris Duke Oral Histories Project for the J. Willard Marriott Library, as well as a contributor to the Indigenous Representations Project for the Minnesota Department of Education and a member of the Hennepin County Native Advisory Council.
