Mar 19, 2025 Announcing the Transregional Middle Easts Book Series by the University of Utah
The University of Utah Press, in collaboration with the University of Utah Middle East Center, is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative new book series, Transregional Middle Easts. This series seeks to expand the boundaries of Middle Eastern scholarship by welcoming manuscripts that address the traditionally defined Middle East, including Egypt, the Levant, the Arabian Peninsula, Turkey, and Iran. Additionally, the series invites innovative approaches that situate the specificities of the Middle East within global, comparative, and connective frameworks. Topics of interest include diasporas, mobility, the flow of ideas, disease, environmental change and technological exchange.
Reflecting the University of Utah Press’s location in the American West and its established strengths, the acquisitions team and editorial board are particularly interested in manuscripts and proposals focused on environmental issues, arid landscapes, water, religious history and traditions and other United States-Middle East connections. This series is made possible through the generous support of the University of Utah College of Humanities.
“We are so pleased by this new partnership with Michael Christopher Low, the director of the University’s Middle East Center, and the extremely fine board that he has assembled. We look forward to the books we will be publishing together.”
– Glenda Cotter, University of Utah Press director
Glenda Cotter, the Press director, expressed her enthusiasm for this new partnership, stating, “We are so pleased by this new partnership with Michael Christopher Low, the director of the University’s Middle East Center, and the extremely fine board that he has assembled. We look forward to the books we will be publishing together.”
Michael Christopher Low, director of the Middle East Center and series editor, remarked, “The launch of Transregional Middle Easts marks the latest chapter in the University of Utah Middle East Center’s six-plus-decade history as a leading center of Middle East scholarship. We are extremely proud to have assembled a truly world-class editorial board to support this series. As one of the few Middle East book series published by a public state university press, we hope to offer prospective authors a trusted platform for their writing. We look forward to nurturing the works of both early career and more-established scholars. Our aim is to bring the best of traditional Middle Eastern and more transregional scholarship to both academic and public-facing audiences at affordable prices.”
