Nov 01, 2016 Bi-Weekly Map Releases from GIS Services
Wow! We’re already more than halfway through Fall semester. It’s been great having the opportunity to meet so many students and faculty this semester working on interesting projects and providing GIS support to help them achieve their project goals.
For fall semester, GIS Services began releasing bi-weekly geospatial maps on a variety of topics. These maps are designed not only to provide information on topics or events that have taken place, but also demonstrate the usefulness of GIS and encourage others to incorporate this technology within their research endeavors.
To date, we have released 5 maps with topics consisting of the following:
• The Beatles’ 1966 United States Tour – released August 29, 2016
o This interactive map depicts concert venue locations from the Beatles’ United States tour from August 12 – 29, 1966 on the journey to their final public concert at Candlestick Park (August 29, 1966) – audio from this final concert is also accessible through this map.
• How Close Are U to the Marriott Library? – released September 12, 2016
o This interactive mapping application incorporates GPS location software and a walking analysis study for the University of Utah campus to help visitors find their current location and determine walking commute times to the Marriott Library.
• How Are Property Values Recovering for Salt Lake County Owners? – released September 26, 2016
o This interactive mapping application depicts the median property value changes for Salt Lake County census tracts based on 2010 – 2014 information in comparison to the number of tenure owners within individual block groups.
• Set Your Destination for Utah Public Lands – released October 10, 2016
o This interactive mapping application allows for the visualization of routes, distances and travel times to wonderful areas of public land that make Utah one of the recreation and travel capitals of the United States.
• How Earthquake Prone Countries Correlate to Significant Historical Events (1610 BC – 2016 AD) – released October 24, 2016
o This interactive mapping application offers the opportunity to study significant Earthquake events worldwide over the past 3,600 years while examining the correlation with present-day countries of high Earthquake risk.
GIS Services will continue releasing bi-weekly maps throughout fall semester with upcoming releases on:

• November 21, 2016
• December 5, 2016
• December 19, 2016
