Aug 29, 2017 Book Arts Adds Two New K-12 Education Specialists
We want to extend a big welcome to two new employees to the Book Arts Program! From the Book Arts Program website, “Through K–12 outreach initiatives, the Program makes classroom visits and hosts workshops, celebrating the innovation, collaboration, and excitement for learning that come from expressing ideas through creative, hands-on experience.” More info about the program can be found here.
Annie Boyer
Annie is a native of Salt Lake, and has spent the last several years working in both public and school libraries. She is a painter, printmaker, and bookbinder. She holds a BFA from Brigham Young University in Visual Arts and a MFA in Art from the University of Utah. As one of the K-12 Education Specialists for the Books Arts Program, Annie will teach the history of the book and basic bookmaking to K-12 classes across Utah. She is especially looking forward to being able to combine her loves of art, books, and education.
Jazmin Gallegos
Jazmin was born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah, and comes from a background of educators which led to her passion for teaching. Her interest in visual arts began at a very young age which led her to obtain a degree in Art Teaching from the University of Utah. Her emphasis is painting and drawing, however from her experience at the U, she has an eagerness for printmaking and book arts. She joins the Book Arts Program staff as a Book Arts K-12 Education Specialist where she will be going into schools, both local and rural, to present the history of books and teach a demonstration from which students will get to make their very own handmade book. She is thrilled to be advocating art education in school around Utah and hopes to continue making art in her free time.
