Robert Louis Stevenson’s poem, “From A Railway Carriage” was first published in 1885 in A Child’s Garden of Verse.
England, not Utah, 1885 not 1869, but we like the way the poem expresses in rapid rhythm the thrill of traveling by train.
And so we dedicate this little book to the anniversary of the joining of the rails of the first transcontinental railway across the United States, 150 years ago today at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory.
From the colophon: Hand printed in 14 point Monotype Garamond by John Holmes.” Edition of seventy copies, signed by the printer, who dedicated this little book “For Children and Grand children everywhere.” Rare Books copy is no. 31.
