Dean’s Message, August 2019

Returning to Fall Semester

It is August and time to say a reluctant goodbye to what has been a glorious summer of flowers, double rainbows, and unbelievably blue skies. But what makes the goodbye to summer somewhat easier is knowing that with the return of autumn also comes the return of students to campus. It is an exhilarating time as campus comes alive with students eager to embark on the new semester.

During the summer months, we have been preparing for the students’ arrival. In anticipation of the continual rise in demand for 3D printing services, we have added more 3D printers. And we are in the process of opening an exciting new space for students and faculty to engage in innovative and collaborative work. We have named this area ProtoSpace, and be sure to remember that name, you will be hearing much more about it in the coming months.

Our fall activities include our annual welcome-back-to-campus event where we are visited by about 2,000 students stopping by to learn about the library’s services, collections, and resources. Students learn about interlibrary loan, reserves, reference assistance, Special Collections, technology assistance, and upcoming exhibitions and events such as Banned Book Week.
