Apr 25, 2016 Footage from Special Collections Featured in KUED’s New Special
Footage from the Audio-Visual Archive in Special Collections is featured prominently in KUED’s new special, “National Parks – Beyond the Crowds,” which airs Tuesday April 26 at 7PM.
This documentary, which explores some of Utah’s less visited National Parks and Monuments, places archive footage almost in the role of a program host, comparing today’s experience with the experience of tourists in the mid-20th century. Much of the archive footage featured comes from the J. Willard Marriott Library’s Special Collections, including the heavily featured 1970s era vacation home movies of Willard and Betty Wilkinson (A0870) , and Charles Eggert’s professionally filmed introduction to Dinosaur National Monument, “This is Dinosaur” (A0870).
This documentary provides an entertaining example of how archival footage can be used creatively for art and education. All of the original footage featured in this documentary is available to view on DVD in the Special Collections reading room.
