Feb 01, 2016 GIS Services: Visualizing Data In New & Exciting Ways
Are you searching for an interesting way of sharing and expressing your data with your audience? Are words sometimes not enough to relay the findings and conclusions you want to express from your research? Consider creating a cartographic map, interactive map or geospatial info graphic to express your data in new and exciting ways.
Through a collaborative partnership, our GIS (Geospatial Information Systems) Services division can assist you with the transformation and visualization of data through the creation of geospatial projects. We’ll help you through each stage of the creation process:
- We’ll walk you through the creation and production of interactive mapping and cartographic products
- We’ll assist you in locating, retrieving and creating geospatial data related to or supportive of your research
- We’ll help you learn the skills necessary to utilize some of the top geospatial software programs available today
- We provide training workshops and online training materials in the form of tutorial videos and subject guides to answer your questions and keep your project moving forward
- You’ll have the peace of mind knowing that as part of a collaborative partnership, we are available to work with you and answer your questions each step of the way
GIS Services at the J. Willard Marriott Library has successfully produced and collaborated on a number of creative and innovative projects designed with the student and researcher in mind. Our projects are not only educational, but also engaging through an enjoyable, interactive learning experience. Check out some of our recent geospatial projects available on our project portfolio page: http://lib.utah.edu/services/geospatial/projects.php.
Why choose to create a GIS component as part of your project?
- GIS creates an improved communication of information by visualizing data in a geospatial format, allowing others to quickly interpret, understand and draw conclusions from
- GIS-based maps and visualizations greatly assist in understanding situations and in the storytelling process by visualizing events and information at the heart of projects to relay thoughts, ideas and interpretations in ways text cannot
- GIS establishes a universal language between different departments, disciplines, professional fields, organizations and the public by painting a picture representing specific data and information at a glance
- GIS allows for the visualization and display of many types of information and can be used as a comparative tool for discovering how different types of data relate to each other
No matter what department you are associated with or what type of data you are working with, our GIS Services division is here to help you succeed in the creation of your geospatial project. Visit our website to learn more or to schedule a consultation – www.lib.utah.edu/services/geospatial
