Mar 02, 2016 Head of Preservation to Receive Award from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters
Congratulations to Randy Silverman, Head of Preservation at the Marriott Library! Randy will be receiving the 2016 Gardner Prize from the Utah Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters at the annual conference being held March 10 at Westminster College. The Gardner Prize is awarded every spring to recognize the outstanding academic contributions of an individual within the state of Utah and is made possible by the generous support of the Gardner Family.
Randy Silverman, Head of Preservation at the University of Utah’s J. Willard Marriott Library since 1993, has worked in the field of book conservation for 38 years. He holds a masters degree in Library Science from BYU and teaches Preservation as an adjunct faculty member for Emporia State University (KS), Dominican University (IL), and the University of Arizona (AZ). He is a founding member of the Western States and Territories Preservation Assistance Service (2007) and teaches disaster preparedness workshops throughout Arizona, Montana, Utah, and Wyoming. He has 86 professional publications, has been involved in disaster recovery since 1986 (including Hurricane Katrina), and has presented professional lectures and workshops in 27 states and 11 countries outside the U.S. In 2013 he received the American Library Association’s Banks Harris Award for “outstanding achievement in the field of preservation,” and was given a Fulbright Specialists award in 2014 to begin helping the National Library of Uzbekistan improve its preservation standards.
