Oct 10, 2022 4 Great Books for Latine Heritage Month
Celebrate Latine Heritage Month with these great books ranging from history, poetry, to memoir, and fiction, selected by Librarian Allyson Mower.

The Injustice Never Leaves You: Anti-Mexican Violence in Texas by Monica Munoz Martinez
A U of U student recommended this to me and I was glad she did. It opened my eyes to the discriminations Mexican Americans faced (called Juan Crow laws) in addition to extreme violence.

Despojo by Tatiana Ramirez
This beautiful book of poetry was selected by a U of U student for the collection.

Native Country of the Heart: A Memoir by Cherrie Moraga
I am reading this for a book club and I have really enjoyed it. It’s a beautifully written memoir about Mexican American family life and history and how a daughter attempts to reconcile her own life with her mother’s in light of that much larger history.

The Adventures of China Iron by Gabriela Cabezon Camara
Set in Argentina, this book tells the story of China Iron, a woman seeking independence, freedom, and love which she finds in varying degrees as she shifts her identity to ensure survival and to explore a world not of her making.
