New digital collections and additions for April – June 2025

Here’s an overview of new collections and new items added to the Digital Library from Special Collections for April-June 2025.

Photos

Fred T. Darvill (P0815) – The Fred T. Darvill photograph collection consists of images and slides documenting a trip down Glen Canyon in 1959. The trip was led by Jack Brennan and Don Harris of Harris-Brennan Expeditions. The main purpose of the trip was to hike to Rainbow Bridge.

Alexander Woodruff “Woody” Anderson (P0457) – Additional photos added to the Ski and Snow Sports Archive. Anderson has a long history of being involved in skiing, ski instruction, and management of ski areas. He was one of the founders of the Intermountain Ski Instructors Association in 1952, and served as the organization’s president in 1963.

Suzy Harris Rytting (P0412) – Additional photographs added. The collection contains photographs of Suzy Rytting’s career and time spent as a skier and model, and contains portraits of Suzy Rytting’s friends and colleagues. Suzy Harris Rytting was a member of the 1952 U.S. Olympic team and held many ski racing titles during the late 1940s and early 1950s.

Darrell “Pinky” Robison (P0407) – 19 Additional photographs added. The Darrell Robison photograph collection contains images of Darrell “Pinky” Robison, a ski racer in the 1950s and other ski racers of the time.

Jewish Archives photograph collection (P0224) The Jewish Archives photograph collection contains photographs of individuals and groups prominent in the Utah Jewish community.

 

Utah interurban railroads (P0820) – The Utah interurban railroads photograph collection consists of images of engines, passenger cars, and other equipment used by various interurban railroads in Utah.

Alta Club (P0254) – 2 Additions to existing collection. The Alta Club photograph collection contains portraits of many well-known figures in business, banking and mining. The Alta Club is one of the oldest “Gentlemen’s Clubs” in Utah. Many prominent non-LDS in Salt Lake City belonged to the Club.

Madsen Furniture Company (P0837) – The Madsen Furniture Company photograph collection contains materials concerning the Madsen Furniture Company. This company was established in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1875.

Jim and Joanie Scribner Patterson Family (P1397) – Photographs added of the Patterson family collection in the Utah Ski and Snow Sports Archive.

Everett Ruess Family  (P1194) – 2 additional photos added. Everett Ruess was an artist and writer who disappeared in the Utah desert in 1934. The Everett Ruess Family photograph collection contains photographs, negatives, postcards, albums, and glass slides of Everett, Stella, Christopher, and Waldo Ruess and their travels between 1900 and 1985.

Bingham Canyon landscapes (P0972) – The Bingham Canyon landscapes photograph collection includes industrial photographs of the Bingham Canyon copper mine, locally known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, dated approximately 1965-1985. The images depict aerial views of the open-pit, construction around the pit, and dirt roads around Bingham Mine.

Max H. Parkin (P0659) – 269 photos added. The Max H. Parkin photograph collection consists chiefly of images and slides of important persons in the Mormon Church and of Mormon historical sites in New York, Ohio, Missouri, and Utah. Many images are of the area around Kirtland, Ohio. Also included are portrait photographs of Max Parkin and of various members of the Parkin family.

Madsen Furniture Company (P0837) – The Madsen Furniture Company was established in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1875.

Avalanche Control (P0393) – 3 additional photos added to the collection in the Ski and Snow Sports Archive

Dodge/Mobil Oil Bonneville Endurance Run photograph collection (P0971) – The Dodge/Mobil Oil Bonneville Endurance Run photograph collection contains 8 black-and-white photographs depicting a test of Dodge V-8.

 

Manuscripts

Angus Munn Woodbury Papers (MS0176) – Additional materials added. The Angus Munn Woodbury papers (1899-1967) consist of diaries, professional and personal correspondence, manuscripts and publications, research files, teaching materials, and field notes produced by Woodbury, a professor of zoology at the University of Utah, a naturalist, historian, ecologist, and administrator. Woodbury also worked with the U. S. Forest Service in Central Utah.

The Montmorency, Hayes and Talbot collection (ACCN1235) – The Montmorency, Hayes and Talbot collection (1902 – 1980) consists of architectural drawings, prints, proposals, and ephemera related to 1174 specific projects across Utah, adjoining states (CO, ID, NM, NV, and WY), and further afield (CA, HI, IL, MT, and OR).

H. Michael Marquardt papers (ACCN0900) – Restricted collection, Reading room access. The H. Michael Marquardt papers (1800-2017) contains correspondence, clippings, diary copies, scholarly articles, miscellaneous research materials on topics in LDS history and theology. Marquardt is a historian and author.

Frank E Moss Papers (Ms0146) – The Frank E. Moss papers (1931-1992) contain congressional papers of Senator Frank E. Moss, 1959-76, covering the 86th-93rd Congress, and personal files, 1935-76. Besides the congressional files the papers include biographical information, photographs, plaques, certificates, honors, etc. representative of his eighteen years as U.S. Senator.

Maud May Babcock Papers (MS0083)  – The Maud May Babcock papers consists of personal and professional correspondence, biographical and genealogical material, class registers and teaching notebooks from the University of Utah, honors and tributes, books, speeches and articles by Babcock, theater and speech programs, and travel memorabilia and photographs. Babcock was and actress and instructor in speech at the University of Utah.

Utah Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Records  (MS0221) – The Utah Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs records (1923-1985) consist of histories, minutes, correspondence, clippings, publications, newsletters, reports, and other papers concerning this Utah women’s club.

 

Audio Visual Materials

LaVern Trepp (A1160) – 44 films added to home movie collection. Lavern O. Trepp (1917-2005) was an American skier and United States Army veteran who served in the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. After his military service, Trepp acquired the Pine Mountain Alpine Ski area in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This collection contains home movies of Trepp’s military service and training and his family.

James Chandler (A0626) – 45 films added to home movie collection.. The James Chandler home movie collection includes films shot by James Chandler and his son, Thomas Chandler, of family gatherings, traveling, and various outdoor recreation.

Football Video Collection (A0319) – Additional films added. The University of Utah Football video collection (1948-1999) contains footage of University of Utah football games, most of which are silent coach’s films of games divided into separate reels for offense, defense and kicking.

Beat and Nancy van Vleck von Allmen (A1096) – 24 films added to home movie collection. The Beat von Allmen audio visual collection is a collection of home videos from the von Allmen family. The videos focus on skiing and family.

KUTV News Collection – Campus Access – Additional films added. In 1977, the Salt Lake City television station KUTV-2 began recording its nightly news reports off-air onto U-matic videocassette. The KUTV News collection includes 241 recorded airchecks between January 5, 1977 through March 6, 1979 which have been digitized for preservation and access.

Trent Harris Independent Film Collection – Additional films added. The Trent Harris independent film collection consists of production elements and completed films by prominent Utah independent filmmaker Trent Harris. Materials include feature narrative films, documentaries, experimental films, and newsmagazine programs.

Shawn Emery – 3 films added to audio-visual archive collection. Visual elements for the film “The Greatest Snow on Earth”

KUTV Extra – Additional films added. KUTV EXTRA was a news magazine type show that aired from 1977 to 1984 and had unique and diverse segments. EXTRA fostered a legacy of programming that provides a historical snapshot of art and culture during a time of marked social change and technological development in Utah and throughout the nation.

University of Utah AirMed Department (A0010) – Films added to restricted collection. The University of Utah AirMed Department video collection (1987-2006) consists of training and safety videos produced and collected by the air medical transport unit of the University of Utah healthcare system as well as coverage relevant to that organization in local and national news broadcasts. The University of Utah’s AirMed program was established in 1972.

Judith and Stanley Hallet Independent Film Collection (A0831) – Films added to restricted collection. The Judith Hallet independent film collection (1967-2014) consists of Judith Hallet’s work as a producer, director, and witer on various news stories, documentaries, and experimental films. This collection is part of the Utah Independent Film Archive (UIFA).

Cold Fusion Collection (A0336) – Films added to restricted collection. The Cold Fusion audio-visual collection consists of audio and video tapes with press conferences, meetings, and newscasts related to cold fusion.

Tim and Dorothy Shafer (A0419)- Films added to home movie collection. The Jim and Dorothy Shafer home movie collection consists of film recordings of family gatherings, traveling, skiing, and other outdoor recreation.

Rare Books

Middle Eastern Rare Books – Additional volumes added to collection.
