Bear Snores On picture“In a cave in the woods,

a slumbering bear

sleeps through the party

in his very own lair.”

“The cold winds howl and the night sounds growl.  But the bear snores on.”

OneBookInfoThe Center for Child Care and Family Resources, along with KSL, the Marriott Library, and Salt Lake City Public Library have come together to promote literacy with the creation of “One Book One University” family literacy event. One Book One University will be held on April 11th, 2016, kicking off the Week of the Young Child.  The book chosen for the year 2016 is “Bear Snores On” by Karma Wilson and Jane Chapman.  The event will run from 9 am until Noon and 1 pm until 4 pm at the Marriott Library East Plaza and will offer children, parents, and students valuable resources and activities that promote learning at every age level.

This free event is open to the public and aims to provide information and activities all in one place with one objective — to help increase the focus on the value of literacy at the University and in the community.

The fair offers those who attend a wide variety of activities for all ages, including a glimpse of resources available for all family members with regards to literacy. Whether it’s to increase reading skills, obtain a library card or create literacy connections across the curriculum, One Book One University will not disappoint.  Activities planned include readings by a local children’s book author – Jean Reagan, face painting, children’s art activities, snacks, opportunities to tour the Family Reading Room in the Marriott Library, and more.

One Book One University is an opportunity for families, students, and community members to learn more about valuable resources that can help change the course of their futures.
