Pulse Orlando Syllabus

In the aftermath of the Pulse Orlando shootings, librarians, teachers, and archivists have created a list of resources (books, films, journal articles, and websites) to help people learn more about the LGBTQ and the LatinX community.

The introduction to the syllabus from Area Librarian for the Digital Library Federation Oliver Bendorf and State University of New York (SUNY) New Paltz research and education librarian Lydia Willoughby reads, “This living document exists as a resource to understand our pain and grief, sadness and healing in the wake of the shooting at Pulse Night Club on June 12, 2016. We are living through each other and within our collective knowledge of LGBTQ2S and QTPOC spaces. We make visible the deep cultural heritages of Latinx communities among queer subcultures.

The syllabus is available at bit.ly/orlandosyllabus.

Librarians and staff at the J. Willard Marriott Library have been creating a list of resources from that Orlando Syllabus. that are available from the Marriott Library (print, electronic, and audiovisual).  This list of over 150 resources can be found here: bit.ly/utahrememberspulse.

In addition to materials listed for the #PulseOrlandoSyllabus,  the Marriott Library Special Collections Print and Journal also hosts an array of information and history regarding Utah’s LGBTQ community and Utah Pride dating as early as January 1976. Read more about that collection here.
