Jan 30, 2019 The Virtual Lab
By Tony Sams
Every Thursday from 10 am – 12 pm, Creativity and Innovation offers an open lab to explore Virtual Reality. Come and try VR for the first time, play a game or two, try out a simulation, or bring your ideas and projects and get some feedback. The open lab takes place in the Marriott Library’s Knowledge Commons (LVL 2). Come explore with us and try out wireless VR. The added mobility, untethered, offers a really unique experience to enhance your virtual presence.
The open-lab concept will also help us explore future services in interactive media. We are planning a more structured lab on April 4th, 10 am-12 pm, in the Digital Matters Lab (LVL 2). This “formal” event will allow students, staff, and faculty to showcase VR projects for research and learning. The lightning talks and demonstrations will allow visitors to experience the projects beyond the presentation.
For those who cannot attend our weekly lab, the library offers extended services for VR through equipment check-out, walk-up stations that feature free Steam account access, and daily consultation time. You can always drop by my office in 1705, or we can always meet in VR as well.
Have ideas for expanded services or to just chat, email me at: tony.sams@utah.edu or call (801) 585-9780.
