U of U Press Turns 75

The University of Utah Press (The Press), which falls under the library umbrella, has turned 75 years-old! Over the course of seven-plus decades, the press has published 650 books in print, in eBook, hardcover, paper, and audiobook format, from authors across the globe.

The Press has contributed immensely to the university’s mission to create and share important scholarship.

“We are proud of the rigorous and honorable work we do, from a grammar of Sindarin Elvish to Lakota language textbooks, from an accessible exploration of Utah’s foodways to a penetrating exploration of Bears Ears as a place of refuge and resistance, to the recently published First Peoples of Great Salt Lake, which demonstrates the long continuity of Native populations in the region even through times of dramatic cultural change,” comments Glenda Cotter, director of the University of Utah Press.

The University of Utah Press celebrated their 75th anniversary during an event held in the Gould Auditorium this year.

Some things to celebrate the anniversary include an exhibition on level 1 of the library and several events, including a forum with the Hinckley Institute of Politics featuring Jody Olsen, author of A Million Miles: My Peace Corp Journey happening on November 19 at noon. A number of events are upcoming and are free and open to the public.
