By Anthony Sams

The Marriott Library has officially opened its newest classroom. Dedicated to immersive learning, the VR Classroom furthers the mission of the Marriott Library by providing access to new and emerging technologies. The VR Classroom (Room 1009) is a dedicated space for teaching and learning within an immersive laboratory setting. The classroom features PC systems powerful enough to run the latest VR tech, the Valve Index.

Based off of surveyed responses from faculty, the VR Classroom was created Computers and equipment found in the Marriott Library VR Classroom.to meet the needs of emerging trends in immersive research and learning. VR is being used around campus, but it is usually sequestered within a departmental lab. The new classroom will make teaching within a immersive learning environment seamless by offering a space where systems are always set up, calibrated, and ready for use. The VR Classroom can also be scheduled in tandem with a secondary classroom for lecture needs.

The library will be offering open demonstrations and walk-throughs from 12:00pm – 2:00pm every Wednesday throughout the remainder of the fall semester. If you would like a hands-on demo of the room, please contact me at: tony.sams@utah.edu or (801) 585-9780.
