Nov 13, 2018 Visionaire in the Fine Arts & Architecture Library
By Luke Leither
Did you know the K.W. Dumke Fine Arts & Architecture Library owns 40 issues of the award-winning publication Visionaire? For over 20 years Visionaire has been publishing art multiples in partnership with world-renowned artists, fashion designers, filmmakers, and cultural icons. The result has been a publication that is utterly unique in its form and content.
Take, for example, issue #33 Touch. Released in 2001 and designed by illustrator and artist François Berthoud, this piece is composed of items designed to stimulate your sense of touch. From a pony-skin outer wrapping to foil stamping and embossed printing, this issue is one-of-a-kind and an adventure to work your way through. Inside you’ll find contributions from many artists including John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Viktor and Rolf, Junya Watanabe, and Helmut Lang.
Other issues, like #45 More Toys, are more whimsical. For this, designers like John Galliano, Helmut Lang, and Stefano Pilati applied their creativity to the traditional toy form. More Toys, likes its predecessor Toys (also owned by the library), sold out almost immediately and has become a collectors item all over the world.
