VR Services – Spring 2023

By Tony Sams

Happy spring! No, let it snow! I enjoy VR, but currently, no VR ski application can replace chasing pow. However, sailing in VR is a real thing. Check out MarineVerse Cup if you have time, then join me for regular weekly racing (Slatflatsam). You can also watch the racing action on MarineVerse’s YouTube channel

So, what’s new for spring? We have been adding new headsets to our checkout services. Recently, we have added Meta Quest Pro headsets. If you have the opportunity to try them, pay attention to the facial tracking, it is a real game-changer! We are continuing to add Meta Quest 2 headsets each week. We have pre-ordered the PlayStation VR 2 HMDs, so watch for them to be available in ProtoSpace and for checkout later this semester.

The VR Arena is the place to explore shared-space-multiplayer (SSM) activities. The VR Arena was designed to have 10 VR-Ready stations surrounding a 25’X50’ SSM ‘arena’. We have Meta Quest 2

HMD’s available for use in the space to explore SSM. Currently, there are several applications which take advantage of SSM with many more amazing apps coming soon. MultiBrush, a 3D painting/sculpting application, allows users to work and create together. Please contact me for a demo!

As always, we have headsets available through the Knowledge Commons. The mobile VR Classroom still features 40 VR-ready laptops and 40 Meta Quest 2 headsets along with a Meta tethering cable. The Mobile Classroom is available for courses and workshops. Please contact me for further details.

Have a great semester!
