Dean’s Message, March 2021

Celebrating the Achievements of Utah Women

With the beginning of March, not only am I reminded that spring is around the corner, but also that it is a time to reflect on the accomplishments and contributions of remarkable women during Women’s History Month. What better way to do this than perusing our collections for a glimpse of Utah women who have made history within our state?

From journalists to politicians to civil rights advocates, the lives of Utah women inspire us as we look at the impact they have made on our communities. Some examples include Olive Woolley Burt,  writer and folklorist, Alice Kasai, member of the Japanese American Community who fought tirelessly for equality, Reva Beck Bosone, first woman in Utah to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, Suzy Harris Rytting, pioneer in the field of ski competition, and Emma Lou Thayne, beloved poet and novelist who touched the hearts of many with her insights and prose.

As spring arrives, take some time to reflect on the women who have impacted your life. As always, please feel free to reach out to me at any time alberta.comer@utah.edu.

Warmest regards,

Alberta Comer
