It’s About Time They Retired…

By Erika Church

After six years of diligent service, we are announcing the retirement of the Lulz Bot Taz 3d Printers. Six years may not sound like a long time, but to put their hard work in perspective each of the machines was consistently printing for an average of 200 days each year. All the machines combined were printing for an average of 120,000 days which is equal to 2,880,000 hours, or 328.5 years. We wish them all the best in their retirement, there’s cake in the breakroom. (jk, the printers asked for a tall glass of machine oil, and they sure have earned it)

What does this mean for you?!

Well, a couple of things… most importantly our hands on 3d print services will now only operate with 1.75mm PLA filament. We will continue to offer online 3d print submission with our 20 printer strong automated 3d print farm. Best of all will be welcoming 6 new Prusa printers to the hands on range.

If you are interested in learning more about 3d printing services or would like to send your regards to the retiring fleet, please reach out to our team at mlib-3dprinting@lists.utah.edu
