The Data Visualization, Computation, & Analysis LibGuide

As ProtoSpace continues expanding our offerings in the areas of GIS and Data Visualization, we are excited to introduce to you a new LibGuide focusing on data visualization, computation, & analysis software / equipment that are available to students, staff, and faculty of the University of Utah.

When you visit the new Data Visualization, Computation, & Analysis LibGuide, you will find several tabs available. These tabs include:

  • Tools & Resources:
    • A collection of data visualization tools identified for projects and research related to many different types of visualization creations. Each tool contains a brief overview, link, and price – (ranging from free to subscription required).
      • *Note: Not all of these programs have been vetted by our staff.
  • Equipment & Software:
    • An overview of data visualization equipment and software available in ProtoSpace. Current offerings include:
      • The Data Visualization Wall – (In Development)
        • Currently in development, this resource joins multiple display screens to form a single, large-scale display in which multiple sources of various display configurations and extents can be presented and analyzed simultaneously.
      • The GIS / Data Visualization Workstations – (including our current / growing software availability and request options).
        • Workstations include (8) high-performance computers designed with computational analysis in mind, including software and resources for enhancing project and research development through the exploration, development, analysis, and presentation of digital scholarship and data visualization.
          • *Note: The Data Visualization Wall (when completed) and GIS / Data Visualization Workstations are only available during open hours of the ProtoSpace 2751 Suite.
            • Monday through Thursday: 9:00am – 5:00pm
            • Friday: 9:00am – 4:00pm
            • Saturday and Sunday: Closed
  • Guides & Databases:
    • A series of guides and databases created by individuals at the Marriott Library related to data visualization including data management, data resources, and research / statistical data repositories.
  • Additional Library Resources:
    • An overview of the different digital scholarship and fabrication activities available through ProtoSpace, designed to assist you in your project and research development.

The tools and resources provided through this LibGuide as well as the equipment available in ProtoSpace are designed to provide users with the ability to immerse themselves in their data, apply deeper analysis, consider new perspectives, and draw conclusions that bridge inquiry and exploration across multiple disciplines.
