The Walter R. Jones Collection on the Vietnam and Indochina Wars

The Walter R. Jones Collection on the Vietnam and Indochina Wars is a recent and important addition to the Special Collections Print and Journal collections.  The collection is an extensive repository of journals and books, fiction and non-fiction, bearing upon the French and American experience in Indochina, the French struggle to maintain their colonies in Indochina, and the American political and military efforts in support of the anti-communist South Vietnam against the communist North.  The Vietnam War had a powerful impact on American political, social, and military life long after the fighting ended in 1973, and the war in its wider meaning is one of the decisive periods in twentieth-century American history.  The Walter R. Jones collection documents the fighting in Vietnam, and the political and cultural repercussions in the United States.

Walter Jones was an assistant head of Special Collections here at the Marriott Library and a lecturer in American history at Salt Lake Community College and the Continuing Education Department at the University of Utah.  He served in the army both in Vietnam and Korea, and was a Korean linguist in the Utah National Guard until his retirement from the Army.

Please visit the Special Collections Reading Room on Level 4 of the J. Marriott Library, Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 6:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm.
