Campus Projects in the Protospace Media Booths/Studio: Fall Semester 2022

By Robert Nelson

Greetings,

Media Studios implemented two media production booths (Podcast and One Button video) in Protospace Fall 2019. Then Covid hit.

With Fall Semester 2022 feeling like the first true “everyone is back on campus” semester, how are the booths being used?

When we include the existing One Button Studio video production studio in Fine Arts, here is how the three user scheduled media spaces were used last Semester.

Media Studio Usage Fall Semester 2022

909 Total Bookings

  • One Button Studio – 215 (24%)

Over 900 individually scheduled sessions seems impressive to me. Students, Faculty and Staff have spaces where they can come in, perform their media purpose and leave. Seven days a week.

Podcasting is the biggest singular use and that is to be expected as more classes are incorporating that medium into instruction. Audio and video production is also significant: interviews, documentaries, course development, video assignments, song creation.

Users are also scheduling the booths for online meetings, study sessions and counseling sessions.

The ease of use and seven-day availability enhances the Marriott Library’s role as central campus hub of media production.

If you haven’t taken advantage of the Booths/One Button Studio, here is how you schedule one:

  1. utah.edu
  2. Services tab
  3. Study spaces link
  4. Scheduling system on the left
  5. 2 Factor login (must be Faculty, Staff or currently enrolled Student)
  6. Schedule – Bookings
  7. Resource filter – Resource type – Protospace: click Filter
  8. Find your preferred Studio or Booth. Book your reservation

Be creative and have fun
